I have lived in many rented homes, so I UNDERSTAND the struggle of making a place your own WHILST KEEPING A LANDLORD HAPPY…

OK you might save a buck, but now you’re left with a bunch of furniture you don’t want/need and, ultimately, matchy matchy furniture is a no-go. To get that “designed” aesthetic you want to look at pieces of furniture that have similar tone, colour, texture or shape. Stuck with a set at home? Why not spread it out in to other rooms in your home and introduce a new item here and there. Top Tip Tuesday: Step in to the light 💡 Not considering your lighting when renovating is equivalent to starting ‘Selling Sunset’ at season 2... you know you’ve made a mistake and ultimately you’re totally in the dark! So let’s talk light; in order to create an atmosphere you want to make sure that you have lights for various function and at various heights. So you will need overhead lighting and task lighting (obvs) but maybe you have a nice piece of artwork that you want to highlight, or a dark corner that needs illuminated. Also consider spot lights that shine downwards over curtains to show the fabric, or floor lights that shine upwards in a hallway. Get creative! You can pick up some great, inexpensive shades on the high street. 2 minute job with a big impact! 2. Change the curtains ~ Burgundy florals not your vibe? (Are they anyone’s vibe?) then change them out! No need to replace poles or go expensive. Ikea have great curtains that are cost-effective and ready to hang. Leave them long to puddle on the ground or whip out the wondaweb and take them up a little. You’ll be surprised what a game changer this is! 3. Layout ~ Make it work for you. Even if you’re renting a furnished property there is no stipulation that it must stay in the room you found it. Think of the home as a blank canvas and how YOU would use it everyday. Bonus tip: Make sure to carefully package up and store any pre-existing items that you are swapping out. Then when you move out they can easily be put back with minimal fuss.
